A place graced by east coast surf, a funky beach town strip, and high quality Lowcountry island vibes — there is no doubt that Folly is one of the most unique beach towns around. A place near to our hearts and where you can often find us hanging out.
Folly is such a great place to visit that we asked our friends Johnny and Anna to hit the town in our new Spring'19 collection and put together some recommendations for you to make the most out of your next visit to Folly Beach. Read on to learn about our favorite ways to spend a day on Folly.
1. Hit the Beach
Whether you're hunting for shark's teeth at low tide, biking down the shoreline on your beach cruiser, or keeping an eye on the local surf break, a day isn't complete at Folly without kicking off your flip flops and getting your toes in the sand. In the summers you'll find pretty fun upbeat tourist scene and in the off season you can enjoy a more quiet local pace. (It's also one of the best places around Charleston to catch the sunrise).

2. Go On a Paddle Adventure
After spending some time on the beach, we suggest going kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding through Folly Creek's salt march. Along the way, you'll most likely be joined by a dolphin or two. Paddling is certainly one of the best ways to experience the beauty of the Lowcountry landscapes and wildlife. Bring your own boards or head over to Charleston SUP Safaris and they can hook you up with tide knowledge and gear rentals.

3. Cast Some Lines
No Free Fly adventure is complete without going out and slinging some flies. The Folly River provides a great opportunity to land redfish, trout, flounder, etc. There are plenty of good spots to fish. Be on the lookout for oyster rakes and any other structure. Get to know the tides and let the search begin.

4. Bar Hop
It's no secret that Folly Beach is home to an impressive amount of happy hours and local watering holes. One of our favorite places to visit for killer cocktails and an electric atmosphere is the Lowlife Bar. If you're feeling extra thirsty, then we suggest stopping into the Sand Dollar Social Club, Jack of Cups Saloon, and the Wiki Wiki Sandbar.

5. Chow Down
After working up an appetite surfing or fishing, Folly is conveniently stacked with plenty of great places to eat. Tacos and beers are our thing, so we always stop into Chico Feo. Trust us, your taste buds will thank you.

6. Catch Some Waves
When the surf is good, we try to get after it as much as possible. One of the most classic ways to experience Folly is by catching some waves at the Washout. Offering the most consistent swell around Charleston, there is no doubt that the Washout is our favorite spot along Folly for surfing.

7. Bike Around Town
Say adios to those beer and taco calories... Folly can be best seen and experienced by bike. We definitely recommend cruising down the side streets, where you'll quickly droll over local beach shacks and funky old surf mobiles. (Extra bonus... Folly is really flat so biking everywhere is easy and fun).

8. Stroll Down Center Street
When the surf isn't pumping and the fish aren't biting, there's no doubt that Center Street occupies the heart of the action on Folly. This main drag is lined with surf shops, funky boutiques, art murals, and some of the best food and drink options around. (Check out the local event calendars, because you might be able to time your visit with an art festival, pub crawl, or live music).

9. Get Off The Beaten Path
Escape the crowds of Center Street and Folly beach and head out for an off-the-beaten path adventure to the Morris Island Lighthouse Trail. Along the way, if you're lucky, you may get a chance to meet ole' Blackbeard's ghost.
Pro tip: pack a YETI soft cooler with waters and snacks, as it get's pretty hot out there. (There is parking, but it can fill up fast so a beach cruiser might be your best and most fun option).
