Our Story
Growing up on the water in Montana, we knew that the outdoor industry had a big problem: performance apparel was too complicated and too uncomfortable. That’s how the idea of Free Fly was born.
After years of researching fabric blends, we landed on natural Bamboo apparel that flowed with us through our day. We quit our jobs together and built a new kind of family business where we could focus on what matters — adventures outside with family and friends.

The Shirt That Started It All
After moving to Charleston and months of researching fabric blends, Free Fly launches its first shirt, the Bamboo Lightweight Long Sleeve. Purposeful and grounded in comfort, this product is what Tanner always wanted to wear on the water as a guide in Montana.
Becomes a Family Business
Over stiff drinks at Hometeam BBQ, Tanner convinces his sister Jenna and brother-in-law Austin to quit their corporate jobs at Nike to move to Charleston and expand Free Fly as a family business. They risk it all, moving their lives and designing the business to grow. Ultra-comfortable tops needed an equally comfortable bottom — breeze shorts were developed.
Our Family Grows
Doubling down on our values, Free Fly launches a rebranded website with our spring release. As a team, everyone deepens their commitment to supporting clean-water initiatives close to home and around the world. Free Fly continues to grow, expanding its HQ to accommodate a growing team and developing a more extensive product line.
A Decade of Comfort
We celebrated 10 years. The Free Fly family goes beyond our Montana roots — it includes our teammates in the office, the retailers that carry our product, and of course, you, who keeps us going. We can’t wait to see where the tide takes us from here.
