When deciding where to head for spring, getting off the grid and checking out new locations were our priorities. Although the island sits in our backyard, we had somehow never laid eyes on it. So we called up Free Fly Ambassadors John and Caroline Sloan to come hang out and join us on our exploratory mission. Scroll on to check out our day on Daufuskie Island and explore the new arrivals!

We started the morning off on the flats with our guide and buddy Josh Boyles of Southern Drawl Outfitters. We found some fish, blew some shots, and had a great time.

We also leveraged our retail partner Outside Hilton Head, who run tour guide operations around the island. Our awesome guide brought us to a remote stretch of beach, which we had all to ourselves. After exploring the beach and enjoying the waves, we piled into the main form of transportation on the island, golf carts. We rolled around in style and continued the adventure.

Continuing our exploration of this remote place, we happened to stumble upon a local artist, Chase Allen. The smell of smoking mullet greeted us as he shook our hands warmly and gave us a tour of his studio. His island workspace was covered from walls to rafters in the impressive fish sculptures he forges from metal. We shared some of the mullet and listened to his many stories about this historical and iconic place.

The afternoon high tide provided plenty of water to get out on the paddle boards and slip into some narrow creeks. We pulled up to a high dock just in time for five o'clock and happy hour to roll around. We poured a couple drinks, and cooled off with a quick dip off the dock.  This concluded one of the most unique days we have enjoyed down here in the Lowcountry. Check out the gear that made this day possible!
