It has finally cooled down in the Lowcountry and we’re just starting to put on the warmer layers. With the temps finally feeling like fall and Halloween finally here, we made a batch of hot cider and whiskey (we’ll share that recipe soon) and got our team together to chat about what we love most of this time of year and to also share some embarrassing Halloween stories (yes Austin, we're talking about your Oompa Loompa costume).

Here’s what came out of a cool afternoon spent at the office with warm drinks and good company...

What's your favorite way to spend a fall weekend in Charleston?

Jake: Early morning runs on the beach while keeping an eye on the local surf break. Afternoons fishing or paddling through the flats. Evenings spent on Sullivan's Island eating and drinking with friends.

Meaghan: Wake up early to go out on the boat and fish. Then, come back and watch UGA football! Finally, have friends over for a drink and then go out to dinner at one of the amazing restaurants in Charleston.

McKenzie: Eating outside and brewery hopping!

Olivia: Beach walks! No tourists!

Tanner: Tailing fishing in the backcountry. It's the best red fishing of the year and nothing beats sight casting in the shallow grass.

Sy: Morning surf at IOP — followed by nachos, brews, and College Football at Home Team.

What is your go-to scary movie?

Austin: IT

Jake: Ernest Scared Stupid

Jenna: Halloween (filmed in CHS!)

Meaghan: Hocus Pocus (that's as scary as I get)

Olivia: Ghostbusters

Tanner: Mean Girls

Sy: The Nun Trailer — I'm a wimp

Now that the weather's cooling off in the Lowcountry, what are your favorite Free Fly layers?

Austin: The Men's Polar Fleece Snap Pullover. It's such a unique new fabric that can truly keep you warm in cool weather.

McKenzie: The Women's Fleece Pullover Hoody. I love wearing this hoody to work on cold days when I want to be cozy. It's perfect under a vest too. And let's not forget the Women's Full Length Tight: These are the ultimate cozy base layer or compliment to a pullover.

Meaghan: The Women's Midweight Long Sleeve, it's so soft on your skin and a perfect layer for under a hoody on a cool morning that becomes a warm afternoon.

Tanner: Men's Flex Henley — perfect weight for fall in Charleston.

Sy: The Bamboo Boxer Briefs, which are the most important "layer" of all.

Jake: Men's Fleece Pullover Hoody — Perfect to throw on during a chilly morning in the mtns or a crisp afternoon walk down the beach (post swim of course).

What's your favorite fall beverage?

Jenna: Holy City Paradise IPA

Lily: Shipyard Pumpkin Ale from Maine

McKenzie: Hot Toddy

Meaghan: Rose Cider

Patricia: Hot Cider (add some Fireball to really warm you up).

Tanner: Westbrook's One Claw Rye Pale Ale

Sy: Angry Balls! Bourbon with a splash of Hard Apple Cider.

What's your favorite fall getaway location? Why?

Austin: Hood River / Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. The leaves are changing colors, the steelhead fishing gets going, and the local breweries have their latest fall brews on tap.

Jake: I'm always dreaming of the west... so Aspen to see the leaves change and greet the mountain's first snowfall of the year.

Lily: New England. Full disclosure, I'm from there, but September and October are amazing. The days are beautiful and the nights are crisp.

McKenzie: Blue Ridge, Georgia in the fall is amazing. Any remote cabin in the mountains really.

Patricia: I miss Jackson Hole, WY in the Fall. The cooler weather, yellowing of the Aspen trees, and paired with the moose coming out of hiding from the mountains.

Tanner: The mountains of North Carolina. Just the views of the changing colors on the blue ridge parkway are worth the trip. We are meeting some friends up at a remote cabin later this fall and I can't wait to relax and enjoy the mountains and cool temps.

Sy: Asheville, NC in early November. Take a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway to witness the peak color change, try a few seasonal brews at Sierra Nevada, and finish it off with dinner at Limones.

What's the best Halloween costume that you've ever dressed up as?

Austin: Oompa Loompa — there is picture evidence ;)

Jenna: Twenty-handed ghost. (My mom safety pinned blown-up latex hospital gloves to a white sheet). Points for creativity, I guess!

McKenzie: Penguin suit! Group costume penguin squad.

Olivia: A UPS box! I found a big UPS box and was able to hide in it and stash a bunch of goodies, plus it was perfect for the occasional scare :)

Patricia: MUSTARD.

Tanner: David Hasselhoff (Baywatch)... the humiliation of a speedo and perm was worth winning the college costume contest. I regret nothing.

Sy: Stopped dressing up after middle school :(
