Who Is Alec Lucas
Fishing Guide & Wild Man

His close friends describe him as a “water creature” and a “ball of chaos.” If there’s a fish that no one can catch, you better believe Alec will figure it out. They're all pretty certain it’s because he actually thinks like a fish.

Alec first got into fishing as a young kid, spending hours on the end of Folly Beach Pier with his mom fishing bait for whatever would eat it, just outside of Charleson, SC. His dad would take him to the South Holston River in Tennessee where he learned how to fly fish. Alec always loved the outdoors—and always wanted to catch critters, whether on a fly rod or with his hands.

“Fly fishing is never set in stone,” Alec says. “It’s never guaranteed. That’s probably the most beautiful thing about it, it’s unpredictable. It keeps you wanting more. We make a plan, and of course it fails. And then you go to plan B, and when that fails, you go to plan C. You keep your expectations low and you end up having the best time of your life, surrounded by the best people in the world.”

“I don’t think I would be who I am today without fly fishing. It’s given me a family. It’s given me a home. It’s given me friends around the world. On top of that it’s so much fun to go out and lay on some fish with a fly rod.”

What is Alec up to these days? During the summers, Alec spends his time rowing clients down the rivers around Carbondale, Colorado. In the fall, he drives south to Baja, Mexico where he trades the 6 wt for a 12 and puts clients on marlin, roosters, and mahi with Los Locos Mag Bay Adventures. According to Alec’s friends, whenever you’re with him—you know you’re gonna walk out of that situation with a smile on your face and a story to tell.

“We make a plan, and of course it fails. And then you go to plan B, and when that fails, you go to plan C. You keep your expectations low and you end up having the best time of your life.”
